How to cut the back of emo style hair?

Im in the process of growing out my hair and i want to have a semi long front side bang and long down the sides...but i do not want a mullet....what way should i cut the back of my hair ...but i do not want the back very short i am not planning on spiking it up it would help alos if you had any pictures to show me..thanks

1. if your not wanting to spike it up just take a layer from the back and cut across, and then another, or have someone help you. dont worry about cutting across once you let it go again it will fall back into place and look choppy
2. eugh your going to have it be like super shiny and not alot of texture arent you, ew i hate that look, just give it to someone about the age of 3-7 and say "make it look pretty, or do it yourself without a mirror, personally i would recommend not spiking, but using a texture putty, so you dont look like a funny shaped egg
3. When I wore my hair that way couple of years ago I used scissors and a razor, I now only use thinning shears because its less damaging. First use the regular scissors to cut your hair to the desired lengh, a second mirror helps get it straight. Next use a razor or thinning shears and continue removing more and more hair until its at your desired fullness. Its almost foolproof because the hair blends so well.
