What exactl is emo? Why are people emo or why do people choose this style?

I was curious exactly what this emo style is? Also, why do people choose it? Also, doesn't your junk hurt when you wear such tight pants?

2. Emo is short for emotional. Meaning always depressed. "Emo" people hate their lifes, or say they do. Emo/screamo music became semi-popular so many people now consider themselves "emo". Emo style is pretty much anything at Hot Topic. Dark colors, band t-shirts, and tight jeans. Some "emo" people claim to cut themselves with razorblades. I have no idea why anyone would want to do that but.. they do. Cutting your wrists is mostly known as emo. I don't exactly no why people choose to be emo. I believe it mostly has to do with artists influences. Just like people who listen to rap where the same clothes as rappers. Another reason, I think, is because people want attention and sympathy. Therefore, they become "emo". And finally... I'm a girl, but my boyfriend says tight jeans are actually comfortable. I guess it depends on what you consider comfortable.
