how to back-brush hair properly in an emo/scene style?

I've tried and it looks okay but i can't get it big at the back and doesn't look right. I have hair that's below shoulder length and layers below chin length [ getting it cut soon tho so please help with that if it'll make it better e.g. say how to get it cut, links to pics, to grow it or not ect ] so can someone please help by giving me the quickest and easiest way for me to do it! 2. I found out the other day that back brushing is often referred to as ' teasing' hair. So whack 'hair teasing' in google and lots of helpful things will come up.
