how can i tease my hair up into the emo style?

i have shoulder length dark hair with short layers and bangs. ive tried using gel and hairspray but i cant get my hair to go in the emo-like style i want it in.

1. umm not too much detail there on how you want it, but try a straightener and straighten your hair into the way you want it, thats what it do, i even curl it with the straightener
2. Alrighty, hairspray&gel dont work? Teasae the ends of your hair. spray hairspray heavily by the roots and then fluff it down. What i mean by fluff is like...pat? kind-ish? Unless you want it OUUTT!. like spiked far then What ud do iz keep it like it is after you use the hairspray. And after your done drying your hair..and straightening it...or whatever u do...spray it with hair spray. lots is key. idk if i helped.?
